I've been using a Saitek P880 using the controller/keyboard software included. This allows for assigning KB keys to buttons, and also allows you to set up macros, useful for chain skills and just spamming heals etc.

The greatest advantages though are more comfortable game play and reduced risk of RSI.

If you own other than a Saitek controller see xpadder. Logitech also do similar profilers for their controllers.
